GMB To Conduct Survey On Bullying And Unfair Treatment For Staff At Bedford Borough Council
We will assess the results and ask the employer to deal with the problems at source to eliminate bullying and unfair treatment at Bedford Borough Council says GMB.
GMB, the union for staff in the public sector, is to undertake a private and confidential survey into bullying and unfair treatment for members employed by Bedford Borough Council.
Steve Sweeney, GMB Regional Officer, said “GMB considers that due to the increased numbers of calls we have received from members concerned about possible bullying and unfair treatment that it is necessary to see how deep the problem is.
It is not yet clear how these problems are arising. However a lot of calls appear to be linked to the many restructurings going on in the council now.
GMB are of the view that many of these restructurings are being driven through so fast in order to save money quickly that the authority has forgotten that they are dealing with the lives of long serving servants to the people of Bedford.
Much of the information for the restructuring is not being supplied in reasonable time scales in order that the staffs are fully informed and that consultations can be meaningful. It light of this GMB considers that it is not surprising that staff could well believe they are being bullied and treated unfairly.
GMB is of the view that because of the serious nature of some of the claims that we have no alternative other than to conduct a private and confidential survey to get to the bottom of it.
We will assess the results and ask the employer to deal with the problems at source to eliminate bullying and unfair treatment at Bedford Borough Council.”
