Selection of a Mayoral Candidate

I’m getting in touch as the appointed selections board has now agreed a timetable for the selection of Labour’s Mayoral Candidate for Bedford.

The selection will be carried out by a one member one vote process (OMOV). All those members who are paid up to date with subscriptions and have been a member of the Labour Party in the Bedford local government area before 26^th January 2022 will be eligible to take part.

Self nomination

The Labour Party rules for the selection of a Mayoral candidate allow for any member who wishes to be the candidate to self nominate. Should you feel that you have the qualities required and be interested in being the Labour Party mayoral candidate, you must complete and return the attached application form by 5pm on Tuesday 16^th August. Please return the application to rachel_pallett@labour.org.uk . You will also find attached the Candidate Code of Conduct and the qualification and disqualification criteria.

OMOV ballot

Voting to select the Mayoral candidate will take place in the week commencing Monday 5^th September. Further information about the balloting process will be sent in due course.

Hustings date

The hustings will take place on Thursday 8^th September, time and venue TBC.

The vote will close on Monday 19^th September. The count will take place on Monday 19^th September and you will be notified of the result.
