According to the Express, a new wave of grammar schools could be opened across England under plans being considered by Theresa May.

Indications from within Downing Street have given campaigners fresh hope that the Prime Minister will repeal a ban on the opening of new grammar schools, which select pupils on the basis of their academic ability through the 11-plus exam.

One Conservative MP said: “Those of us in favour of selective education have now been given every reason to feel hopeful that the new Prime Minister will lift the ban on the creation of new grammar schools.

“Those close to her have been making positive noises that this could be on the cards as part of her commitment to social mobility.
