“GMB has repeatedly requested a meeting with the Employers, and they have now agreed to meet with us.”
Local Government Pay Update 2026/27
On 1 December 2025, GMB, Unite and Unison submitted the pay claim for 2026/27.
Following this, the Employers held a series of regional meetings to consider the claim.
The Local Government Employers Committee has now reviewed feedback from those regional sessions with Council Leaders. As the next step in the process, consultations with the Political Party Groups are taking place.
The Employers Committee is scheduled to meet on 24 March 2026 at the Local Government Association offices in London to decide what offer they wish to make to the trade unions.
GMB has repeatedly requested a meeting with the Employers, and they have now agreed to meet with us. Until this meeting takes place, we will not know the details of the offer.
Once a formal pay offer is received, it will be shared with all members.
GMB will then begin its internal consultation process, which concludes with a meeting of the Joint Local Government and Schools Committees. This meeting will determine whether GMB recommends accepting or rejecting the Employers’ offer.
GMB Regions will then consult with members working in Local Authorities and Schools. Every member will have the opportunity to vote—whether through workplace meetings, online meetings, email, or text. All GMB members will be able to have their say on the pay offer.
In the meantime, you can still raise the issue with your local councillor and ask them to support the GMB pay claim.
